Quality Control [Aggregates]

Job location: Kirkfield, ON

Reporting to the General Manager, the Quality Control position is responsible for conducting and coordinating internal & external testing onsite while maintaining a safe working environment by complying with all safety guidelines.

 

This position is based out of Kirkfield with additional responsibilities for various site locations which currently include Erin/Kirkfield/Stouffville/Manvers & possible future locations (internal or external) depending on work demands. Position works very closely with internal operations & the sales team.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner; ensures the lab and any vehicle is operated and maintained to the highest standards while ensuring all safety guidelines are met.
  • Work collaboratively to efficiently operate the laboratory equipment, and conduct field samples and laboratory tests in compliance with various standards and procedures.
  • Complete all reports as required, while documenting and notifying the appropriate personnel of any trends, outliers and issues immediately.
  • Work with the various team(s) on proactively recognizing and resolving production or shipping challenges or opportunities for improvement.
  • Greet and work with all customers, vendors and consultants in a professional manner, and resolve/escalate issues as required.
  • Become familiar with all products that are produced and/or delivered; as well as the end user/our customer’s various requirements.
  • Coordinate third party testing as and when required.
  • Ensure timely sampling, testing and reporting of all required gradation & physical property testing.
  • May occasionally be asked to work (in the strictest of confidence) on projects related to creating mining plans or exploring our physical assets for strategic/creative business implementation strategies.
  • Assist with hiring QC co-op students, and is responsible for on-boarding, training and coaching student(s) throughout their work term.
  • Proper maintenance and repair of all assets that support QC operations including lab equipment, IT items and Vehicles.
  • May occasionally be asked to work outside the listed hours to deal with customer issues or training.
  • Responsible for setting and maintaining appropriate production & shipping testing frequency targets for all our sites and products.
  • Responsible for maintaining production & shipping gradation targets for all our sites and products.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a civil engineering or related technical field is an asset.
  • Technical knowledge of aggregates materials and/or construction.
  • Ability to routinely obtain samples and lift aggregate samples that weigh up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G-class driver’s license, with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Must be available to work 7am-5pm Monday to Friday with adjustment of hours as per requirements of work.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, database management, and comfortable with computers.
  • Ability to execute on strategic Goals, Objectives and / or KPI’s.
  • Must be highly organized and be able to manage multiple tasks at various stages of completeness throughout a day, week or month.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership skills, and comfortable with training personnel utilized in the QC department.
  • Team player.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors.
